Itayaa Medium Park is located in the South East Zone of Oromia Region, only about 15 km from Asella town on the main road to Bale Robe. It is one of the medium-scale agro-industrial facilities administered by the Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation (OIPDC).
The park is designed for manufacturing, semi-processing and primary processing of agricultural products, with aggregation, storage, cold rooms and laboratory facilities.
1. Location Advantage
Proximity to Asella (a significant urban center) and the productive highlands of Arsi provides both a metropolitan service base and a dense agricultural hinterland specialized in wheat, barley, livestock and honey.
2. Core Value Chains & Facilities
| Focus Area | Primary Commodities | Facilities & Processing |
|---|---|---|
| Cereals | Wheat, Barley | Milling, storage, packaging |
| Livestock | Cattle and related products | Primary processing, cold storage |
| Honey | Honey and beeswax | Processing, packaging, quality control |
| Other | Various local crops | Aggregation, cold rooms, laboratories |
3. Role in the Broader System
As a medium park, Itayaa complements the larger IAIPs (such as Bulbula and the forthcoming Nekemte) by providing more localized processing capacity closer to specific production zones in Arsi and Bale, reducing transport costs and post-harvest losses for farmers in the southeast.
4. Infrastructure & Investor Support
Investor-Ready Medium Park
Administered under the Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation, Itayaa offers high-quality infrastructure for agro-processing units, including aggregation facilities, storage, cold rooms, receiving areas, quarantine centers and laboratories, together with essential utilities.
Processing & Storage
Shades, bulk storage, cold rooms and receiving areas.
Quality Infrastructure
Laboratories for agricultural raw-input testing.
Utilities
Water, electricity and wastewater treatment facilities.
OIPDC Support
Part of the wider Oromia industrial parks network with investor services.
The Broader Impact
Itayaa Medium Park extends the agro-industrial transformation model into Southeast Oromia, giving farmers in the Arsi–Bale corridor a closer processing outlet and contributing to the region’s overall shift from raw commodity sales to higher-value agro-processing.
